The Unabridged Version

First of all, my name is Ivan Romero.  If you are here, you want to know a little more about the person behind the blog. Please feel welcome and thank you for reading.

When not playing with fountain pens, my family and my church take up most of my time. Three daughters kind of makes for a busy home life and I would not have it any other way. 🙂

My very first fountain pen was a Sheaffer school pen that I bought when I was 10 or 12. It was lost and I had no idea what I was doing but it looked cool. I ended up with very inky hands. Fast forward 20 years or so and that is when I purchased a Sensa Meridian.

I used it for a bit, did not like the fat “fine” line and left it on my desk where the cartridge dried out. Searching for info on how to clean it and use the converter with bottled ink in 2010 was when I had my epiphany moment. One thing lead to another and next thing I knew, I was grinding my own nibs just for the fun of it.

I have never ground a nib this fast. 5 mins flat. Writing sample next.

I love stationery. The way the nib feels when gliding across a good piece of paper is magical. Combine that with a nice color of some good ink and it is bliss.

Electronics and computer geekery are pervasive throughout my home. I am that guy in everybody’s family that people turn to when they need computer help. Computer help is synonymous with many things from programming a DVR to computer shopping tips. My main computer is an Ubuntu system that I built from the ground up.  This includes the custom case it is housed in. It is old now but can handle everything I need it to do.

Project Ground Zero

My HTPC is Windows based and I own an iPad. My phone is Android based. I have no OS ecosystem allegiance. If it does the job and I like the way it does the job, it gets put into service. I love audio engineering and can work with audio equipment down to the component level. I can sometimes be found behind a Yamaha M7CL-48 channel digital mixer but have no issues with the little Behringer-8 channel job that I installed at work. Recording music, be it live or pre-recorded, via an old Minidisc recorder, is a past time.

For the most part I purchase the items I review with my own money. Sometimes I win items and review them here. I am sometimes approached by companies that want me to review their products. I strive for all my reviews to be honest and accurate to the best of my ability. In no way will a company have influence on the final review outcome whether it be bad or good. I do make a note in reviews where products have been provided to me.

  1. As a christian pen user it is nice to find someone with a positive moral stand. I am an old Christian and have been in my church, Elkview Baptist for over 44 years. I collect my pens to use and for the beauty that is inherent in them. Be blessed, Shirl
